Beswick is famous for its horses, but the legs are very
vulnerable! Traditional figurines generally augment fragile legs with
additional support, such as rocks, tree stumps or the ever-popular crinoline
skirt. You can't really do much of that with animals, so Beswick have ignored
this tradition and as result their horses look very good, but I keep a special
box to hold them upside-down while I fix the broken legs. Some horses are
attached to wooden bases as shown below, but this generally means that all four
legs get broken at once.
